I'm a 45 yr old divorced mother of 4. Life has always been a struggle but this year is turning out to the the worst year ever. I hate to complain or sound ungrateful because God have brought me a long way but I can't seem to ever catch a break. My current issue is After several months of being told My runny nose was allergies, it turns out to be a CSF leak. Now I have to have brain surgery to fix it and I'm scared to death. I will be out of work with no pay for about a month. I've been praying on the situation and all I keep thinking is "ask and it shall be given". So here I am dropping my pride and asking for help to keep a roof over me and my babies heads while I try to get healthy again.
when it rains it pours!!
Hello
My problem started on December 18th, 2013, I was leaving walmart after shopping and I collapsed to the ground. Someone had to revive me and call 911. I had seizures all the way to the hospital. I had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in my lung) which caused a lack of oxygen to my brain and caused me to collapsed. I ended up fracturing my brain and was in a coma for 14 days. I also had a blood clot in my leg. I was off work since December and have been receiving 50% of my income. I had my own home but could no long afford mortgage payments and condo fees and utilities, so I had to walk away from my home. I also have seizures because of where my head has been damaged.
On May 4th I had another seizure and fell 2 feet and was hospitalized for chest pains, they thought the blood clots had returned, but it turned out to be my shoulder, thankfully, but I am still off work and struggling to pay rent.
Now I suffer from extreme migraines from the head injury and I went to emergency room on September 13th, they tried to treat me, but when nothing worked they sent me home in the middle of the night. I ended up falling off a roof and having a compound fracture and requiring surgery. Just when I was getting ready to go back to work, I'm off for at least another 3 months recovering and still on only 50% of my income. I have incurred a lot of additional expenses, a walker, a wheel chair, crutches, medications, ambulance bills, I don't have any money for my portion of the rent this month. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I've tapped out all my friends already, there isn't anyone else to ask. I'm short $500. I tried loan companies, but I had a couple of NSFs last month and no one wants to lend me money at this time.
Thanks for your help.

Everything is happening at once!
Well this week we found out we have $1500 worth of work to put into our jeep. On top of that I broke one of our storm windows. I dropped my phone and cracked my screen. Our washing machine started on fire. And now our kitchen sink drain is plugged. Even after snaking it and trying everything we could at home, looks like we are going to have to get a plumber. That was this week. I am wondering if we are suddenly cursed! We are not the type who have savings or credit cards. We live paycheck to paycheck. Our daughter's birthday is October 20th. We have less than a month to get her a present and plan her party. I am beyond stressed and just figured there'd be no harm in seeing if someone was willing to help us out. To fix our jeep, our window, replace my phone and washing machine and hire a plumber is well beyond our means. Especially when we have our daughters birthday to pay for this month! I would be forever grateful for your help!
Breaking the Cycle
Please support me in reaching my $85 application fee to college
My overall goal is to work with families and use my educational to guide my career in the right direction for a positive impression.
I have three wonderful children that have taught me how to strive, accomplish, and conquer. With limited finances, I was able to utilize the city resources and make it work for us. The Winston Salem Journal became my lifeline of things to do in the community. We visited libraries, watched outside movies in the park, got involved with community baseball, strolled art galleries, and did it all for free. One season, I can remember we visited so may church trunk-or-treats inside the community that the kids were begging to stay home for Halloween. Amazingly, I outdid my kids. That was a wonderful feeling to have fun and without money!
On January 2009, I got a phone call that my mother was in the hospital and had a stroke. It gave me the chance to utilize the Certified Nursing Assistant skills I gained working on the dementia unit for several years, and I dedicated my time to helping my mother regain vital quality of life. Her path to recovery is an honorable journey filled with crazy emotions. Today she lives by herself, pays her bills, cooks, cleans, makes friends, and gives directions. Unfortunately, we are not able to spend as much time together because of the fulltime commitments to make work and happen. It can be difficult to overcome and carve a balance between working three jobs, attending classes, volunteering, and managing study time.
Despite all of my barriers, college will become a resource to achieving my goals of giving to the community and growing educationally.
Life carefully places everyone where we are needed; we do not always see the bigger picture. Therefore, my life experiences have made an impact on me, and I want to offer a helping hand in the workforce while continuing to volunteer in my community. I am a determined leader that can set the example of giving back while attending college and after graduation. Empowered families grow strong communities, strong communities empower our youth, and empowered youth weave together a fabric that makes history. There will be new opportunities to resources, and my education will affirm that anything is possible by paying it forward by recognizing the organizations that assisted me in carving my academic path.
Thank you in believing in me
Sonia
