I never thought I’d have to do this, but I see no other recourse at this point and time. I’m a photographer who used to work for a major publishing company. My work has been published all over the USA, Canada, Mexico, and parts of Europe, and I’ve won several awards as well. After a corporate takeover of the company of a competing company basically all the employees, including myself were laid-off and the company was dismantled. Since that time I’ve been seeking employment EVERYDAY in the field, but just can’t seem to get an opportunity to save my life. Most of the places I apply to I never hear back from, even after several follow-ups. After awhile I had to take a contractual courier job just to help keep my head above water, while I kept seeking opportunities in photography. I was able to do this until I had back surgery a couple of years ago, and that has set me back big time. Soon after I was released from the rehabilitation center I was forcibly evicted from my home. Even though I was able to get some of my property out, the vast majority of my property was either stolen or thrown in a dumpster. It was nightmare and so surreal and I still believe it happened. I was able to get the majority of my photography equipment out, clothes, etc., I lost my family history and many other sentimental items, about 2500 books, furniture, even my mother’s wedding dress, and the list goes on and on. I’ve had to declare personal bankruptcy, and now I what I still have in a storage facility is in danger of being auctioned off because I can’t keep up with the rent payments. If I lose what I have left I will basically have nothing, and I’ll be completely ruined. In addition to a sizable investment in photography equipment, there’s about 3 decades of my work in there, most of my clothes, some furniture I was able to get out, and many other miscellaneous items. I’ve even applied for different positions with the storage company in order to make enough to pay the rent, but I haven’t heard anything back from them. I’m quite aware that the photography market has changed over the past few years, and I plan to change along with it in order to survive. I have some concepts I want to pursue, but need access to my equipment in order to do it. I am asking for donations so I may pay the rent, so I will have a chance to get back on my feet once again.
