Despite selling almost everything, the move left us some debt

We, a family of 5, moved closer to my husbands' family. We sold almost everything in the house, we took no furniture with us, yet, the move left us with some debt and my husband has a harder time than anticipated to find a job.
Please help me! It is rather awkward to live off the good will of my in laws and it puts a strain into our marriage.
